About Me
Never Happier Than When I've Got A Camera In My Hand |
Like many photographers, I got my first camera when I was about 9 or 10 years old. It was just about all plastic, including the lens, and tool a cartridge of 120 film I think. You could take 12 shots and then had to take the exposed film to the village shop and wait for about a week before you got the tiny black and white prints back. Nowadays of course, everything is digital and the shots can be taken and processed within a few minutes.
I'll happily photograph just about anything but my passion is for flowers and gardens and macro shots in my studio (well, conservatory really) are a favourite. It never ceases to amaze me just how intricate even the simplest flower is if you look hard enough. With an artist for a wife, I've been persuaded to make better use of the thousands of images I've collected over the years so I'm slowly spending more time in post-processing my photos and trying to convert them into what might be called works of art. Photoshop is a wonderful tool and you can do so much with it but it takes a long time to learn all its capabilities. There are just a few examples in the galleries section. |
The Kit |
Before I "went digital", I was a Canon user but when decided to make the change and had to change all my kit I decided to go for a Nikon. No particular reason, it just felt right in my hand.
I now use a D800 for almost all my work (I've got a D300 too) with a variety of zoom and prime lenses. The favourites are a 28-80mm macro lens which is my general workhorse and a Sigma 105mm macro lens which is wonderful for the close-up flower shots. |
